Important Race Weekend Information

Everything you need to know about race weekend for this years Gazley Volkswagen Wellington Marathon.

Race Pack Pick-Up

Where:
Gazley Volkswagen, 38 Kent Tce, Wellington City. Click Here for Map.
When:
Saturday 28th June - 9am to 5pm (the before the race).
What:
Picking up race essentials such as programme, race number & timing chip.
Picking up any Tshirts & Stadium parking tickets you purchased.
Late entries will also be taken.
Bring:
The email confirmation we emailed you.
Expo:
Sponsors are onsite with special promotions, including Mizuno & Thermatech.
Official merchandise will be available, but to be sure of availability, order when you enter.

  • If you cannot collect your race pack, someone else may pick it up provided they have your email confirmation.
  • If you want to pick up registration packs for an entire group Email Us Here.
  • Pick Up on race morning is only available for entrants driving from outside greater Wellington on race day (Kapiti, Horowhenua, Manawatu, Wanganui, Wairarapa). Those race packs can be collected on race morning at Sky Stadium Pavilion Bar, 6:30am to 8:30am. If these late pick-ups have purchased Stadium parking in their entry, you must contact us at least 10 days prior to arrange postage of the ticket.

Start/Finish Notes

  • All races start and finish at Sky Stadium, on the Fran Wilde Walkway.
  • Participants should be at Sky Stadium at least 45min before their start time.
  • 42k Runners who think they will take more than 6hrs may start with 42k Walkers at 7:00am. Your results will still count in the 42k Run.
  • A pre-race briefing is held on the start line 10min before each race. All participants must attend.
  • The start line is divided into expected finish times zones. Please line up in realistic time zone.
  • Walkers, please line up toward rear of your field.
  • As you approach the finish you are directed into a specific chute for your race. Kids & 10k in the righthand chute. 42k in the centre chute. 21k in the left chute.
  • After finishing, officials will usher all finishers into the recovery area inside Sky Stadium at aisle 20 where you will receive drinks and fruit.
  • And yes, every finisher is awarded a medal as they finish!

Course Info

  • Info, course descriptions, maps, drink stations etc... All Here.
  • The Full Marathon has a cut off at the end of their first lap (22k) of 11:00am. Those not making this cut-off may finish as a Half Marathoner.
  • At 1:00pm, all course controls will cease. The finish will remain open, but participants are on the course at their own risk and must run/walk on footpaths (see course info).

  • Provisional results will be posted in Sky Stadium, near aisle 15, from 10:30am.

(Sky Stadium Members Gallery is at Level 4. Access is through the Pavilion Bar and up the escalators. Beverages and light snacks available from 11:30pm).
And yes, every finisher is awarded a medal as they finish.

The Venue - Sky Stadium

  • All race day activities are held at Wellington's famous Sky Stadium.
  • Enter via the concrete walkways and ticket gates, as per any Stadium event.

Car Parking

  • Sky Stadium car parking is via pre-purchased ticket only. This is available for $10 when you enter and is collected at Race Pack Pick Up.
  • There is ample car parking within 15min walk of Sky Stadium... Parking Map.
  • Sky Stadium is only 1k from major suburban train and bus stations.
  • No parking is permitted on the course. Cars on the course will be towed.

Race Day Shuttle Bus

On race day we provide a free bus between the CBD and Sky Stadium... More Here.


Race HQ

  • Race HQ is inside Sky Stadium, at the Stadium info booth at Aisle 18.
  • All enquiries should be directed to Race HQ only.

Secure Gear Storage

  • Secure gear storage is available inside Sky Stadium, at Aisle 11.
  • Your race number has a detachable bag tag. Attach it to your bag.
  • The organisers take no responsibility for any gear left at Sky Stadium.

Toilets & Showers

  • Toilets are found inside Sky Stadium.
  • Showers are also available, opposite Aisle 20.
  • Toilets will be on course (see course info).

First Aid

  • First Aid is provided at Sky Stadium (at Aisle 19 & the start/finish) and at Aid Stations on the course (at drink stations & roving).
  • In the event of collapse or severe medical incident, do not move the patient. Make another participant run to the nearest Aid Station or Marshal and they will arrange for First Aid. Keep the participant warm while waiting for First Aid.

Post-Race Massage

  • Massage will be available post-race, in the Pavilion Bar.
  • Massage is $20 for 15min. Bring cash.

Refreshments

Sky Stadium will have food and beverage outlets open throughout the day, at Aisle 13 and the Prize Giving.


Spectators

Spectators cannot drive on the course due to road closures. But they can drive to the following spectators points for the Half & Full Marathon only.

  • Corner Cobham Dve & Evans Bay Parade:  This is 8k and 8k to go for both the Half Marathon and Full Marathon. Drive via Mt Victoria Tunnel. Park beside Kilbirnie Pk and use the walk lights to cross the road... Click for Map.

Join A Pace Team

In conjunction with Wellington Scottish Athletic Club, half marathon participants can join a Pace Team led by experienced runners. Pace Team time goals are listed below. Pace Leaders have a flag with their time on it. On race day, Pace Teams will assemble beside the start, in their respective time zones, from 8:15am. At Race Pack Pick Up you can pick up a Pace Band to help pace yourself.
