Something 4 Everyone !

Best Dressed Finisher!

This year we have a special prize for the best fancy dress. But be warned; the standard is already pretty high. We regularly see heart racers, ambulances, bananas, pigs, chickens, dogs, Elvis and more. In 2017 we even had a Guinness World Record for the fastest marathon dressed as an aeroplane!

All you have to do is get your gear on, get a photo of yourself at the race, then email the photo to us within 48hrs of race day. We'll post them to our Facebook page and announce a winner... The best dressed man and woman get a new pair of running shoes from the Shoe Clinic.

Go on. You know you want to!

Wellington Marathon Champs

In 2024 our Full Marathon also hosts the official Athletics Wellington Marathon Championship.

Only participants registered with an Athletics Wellington club are eligible for these awards. To be eligible you must fill out your club name and registration number when you enter, and compete in club uniform. Championship results and awards on race day are provisional.

Spot Prizes

Minor Spot Prizes - Vouchers for minor spot prizes will be awarded at random as participants finish. These can be redeemed for the prize at the Info Booth at Aisle 18 inside Sky Stadium.

Major Spot Prizes - These are awarded at the prize givings. As well as running trips, they include gym memberships, product from Mizuno, Shoe Clinic and Thermatech, and a kids mtn bike (Magic Mile only).

Finishers become eligible for the major spot prizes by placing your race number tear-off tag in a box as you enter the prize giving. Names are drawn at random during the prize giving. To claim a major spot prize, the person must be at the prize giving.

Japanese
Marathon Exchange

Wellington has an annual marathon exchange with Sakai City in Japan whereby the first local runner in our respective marathons wins a trip to the other. This prize has been created by the sister city associations of Wellington and Sakai, and the prize alternates annually between men and women. In 2018 Sakai's Miyuki Usui was the first Sakai runner in the Senshu Marathon and then won the Wellington Marathon, while Ingrid Cree finished second and first Wellington woman, but then won the 2019 Senshu Marathon!

Please Note:   Due to Covid-19 the Japanese Marathon exchange has not happened since 2019. We hope to have it place for 2024, but cannot yet confirm.
